Waverley duo represent Australia in Belgium

After gaining selection on to the Women's National Squad at the recent Australian Championships, Waverley's Emily Whitehead and Kate McDonald have returned to Australia following their first international assignment for 2019. Emily and Kate travelled to Ghent, Belgium to compete for Australia at the Flanders International Team Challenge, which was held on Saturday 8th and Sunday 9th June.

The Australian team - which also featured Emma Nedov from New South Wales and Queensland duo Georgia Godwin and Georgia-Rose Brown - performed exceptionally well to claim the Silver medal in the Team All Around competition! It was an incredibly tight finish, with the Netherlands taking Gold by just 0.133. Individually, Emily and Kate finished in 7th and 23rd place respectively.

The second day of competition followed a unique format, combining Senior International and Junior International athletes into a team, with two Juniors and two Seniors competing on each apparatus. As the Australian contingent consisted only of Senior International athletes, our gymnasts were put into a mixed team with Italy's Junior International gymnasts. A strong performance resulted in another podium finish, with the mixed team claiming Bronze behind Belgium and Romania!

Congratulations to Emily and Kate on a fantastic competition, and of course their travelling support team - Waverley coaches John Hart and Georgia Bonora, and Bounce Health Group physiotherapist Jenni Candler.
